Character's Background

Following in his father's footsteps, Mohinder is a genetics professor in India. His father Chandra (portrayed by Erick Avari) was the author of a book called Activating Evolution. It's unknown when, but Mohinder's father moved into an apartment in Brooklyn and was continuing his research. Chandra's book gave some evidence of being able to track those with these genetic diseases along with working towards a cure.

Soon after reaching the states, Chandra was murdered in the front seat of the cab he drove part time. Once news of this found Mohinder, he left his life behind as a University Professor in Madras, to travel to his father's apartment to begin piecing together his death. In hopes of getting closer to the truth Mohinder also takes on a cab driver job with the same company his father had worked for.

Mohinder believes his father was murdered due to his genetic findings. Mohinder eventually rents his father's apartment so that he can continue on with his research. As he begins sorting out all the research his father has done, Mohinder often feels he is being watched and followed.

During the second episode, Mohinder discovers that his father has compiled a program that can find all the special people. Not long after he discovers this he comes home to find an exterminator in the apartment. He quickly realizes the guy was planting surveillance equipment in the apartment. Pulling a gun on Mohinder, they struggle leading to the gun dropping on the hallway floor outside the apartment where his neighbor, Eden McCain (portrayed by Nora Zehetner) picks up the gun prompting the assailant to flee.

At this point Mohinder knows the apartment holds all the answers he is looking for. Eventually Eden and him find a portable hard drive in his father's pet's cage that holds all the genetics research that his father had done on tracking those with special abilities. With this information, Mohinder sets out to begin finding those with these abilities.
