Characters Powers and Abilities

Claire can spontaneously regenerate any tissue on her body which allows her to recover from injuries within seconds. She seems to also not really feel any pain from her injuries, if anything her reactions to the injuries are more amazement and awe. She does feel pain, but not in ways most of us do. Thus far there has been no limits to what Claire can recover from though its been implied that having her brain removed would permanently kill her. For Claire to heal from traumatic injuries such as impalement the foreign object must be removed from her body before regeneration can occur.

Character's Background

As a baby Claire was rescued by Noah Bennet (portrayed by Jack Coleman) and Claude (Portrayed by Christopher Eccleston) from a fire her biological mother caused. At that time Claire's soon to be father worked for a group who traveled the world investigating superhuman phenomena. It was believed Claire had or would have some sort of superhuman ability so the group that employed Noah placed her in his custody.

For most of Claire Bear's (nickname her adoptive father gave her) childhood everything was normal. Not till high school did she begin to experience any regeneration abilities. Six months prior to when we were introduced to Claire in episode 1 she had just become a cheerleader at Union Wells High School. Befriending Jackie Wilcox, another cheerleader to get onto the squad Jackie brings Claire her uniform and pressures her to try it on. Declining, Claire says she would try it on later. Somewhat put out by this, Jackie hints to Claire there are plenty of other people who would like to be cheerleaders. At that remark Clair snatches the uniform from Jackie and by doing so smashes into a glass trophy case cutting her hand open. Needing stitches they rush Claire to the hospital. Several days later Claire and her stepfather examine the hand only to find it's completely healed.

Fast forward to the Pilot Episode, several months after cutting her hand Claire is fully aware of her abilities. She confides in another High School and childhood friend Zach (portrayed by Thomas Dekker) who is one of the first to know of her abilities. She convinces him to videotape her testing her regenerative powers by attempting to injure herself. Claire initially believes her powers make her a freak and is afraid of being discovered. Accidently her younger brother Lyle (portrayed by Randall Bentley) see's the videotape Zach recorded of Claire's regeneration test and is sworn to secrecy.

Despite attempting to avoid any attention Claire ends up on the news rescuing a man from a burning train wreck. The credit for the rescue is later claimed by her friend Jackie. Claire grudgingly stays silent while Jackie takes the credit for the rescue which in the end proves to be a costly mistake for Jackie.

At the start of Season 2 Claire and her family have relocated from Odessa, TX to Costa Verde, CA.  Trying to be the "typical" teenager Claire agrees to be normal and not draw any attention to herself.  Attempting to make her feel better Mr. Bennet give's Claire a new car on the first day of school, where a few days later it gets stolen!  During science class Claire meets West (portrayed by Nick D'Angelo."  Later in gym class Claire stands up for another classmate who is being picked on by the cheerleading squad.  To keep them from bothering her Claire agrees to perform a cheerleading move but remembering what her father says she backs down from doing it.  As everyone heads back to the showers and the gym is empty Claire does the move but breaks her knee in the process.  As she is sitting on the ground healing West walks in but doesn't see.

After a lecture at school about lizards regenerating limbs Claire decides to test the boundaries of her abilities and chops off a toe.  Unknowingly West is watching outside the window as she does this and regenerates a new toe.  She looks up to see West watching and rushes outside to confront him but he's gone.  With her secret known to West she finally admits to it, once she does West scoops her up and flies her away.  Knowing now he is "special" she begins confiding in him.
